Fossil Feature Movie Nights at Egelston

Did you know the Egelston branch is hosting movie nights this summer? Well, now you do! We have two movie nights in our lineup: Friday, July 10th and Friday, July 31st.

July 10th: We are screening the documentary Dinosaur 13, which is about SUE, arguably the most famous T-rex ever!

Imagine you are deep in the Holocene Epoch of the Quaternary Period in terms of geologic time scale. Cast yourself back into the final century of the prior millennium, also known as a long, long time ago (...1990, to be exact). This is where the story begins; when Sue Hendrickson discovered one of the largest, and most complete, Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons ever found.

Not long after being unearthed, a legal battle over who could claim ownership of the fossil began and unfolded over the course of nearly a decade! The film details these dramatic events.

Eventually, SUE arrived at the Field Museum in Chicago, debuting to the world in the main entry hall on May 17th, 2000. SUE greeted millions of visitors over the years, and in 2019 was moved to an awe-inspiring new exhibit. Here you can visit SUE every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas.

July 31st: We are screening the quintessential dinosaur flick; Jurassic Park, of course! The 1993 film helped spark a love of dinosaurs for millions and continues to do so thirty-three years later! (Yes, it’s really thirty-three. You say you’re sure it only came out a few years ago? I’m sorry you had to find out this way. You feel like a fossil? Me, too.)

Please join us Friday, July 10th and Friday, July 31st! We’ll provide the popcorn, just bring a folding chair or a cozy blanket to enjoy some truly epic Fossil Features!
