Mark your calendars!
The Holton Branch of MADL is thrilled to announce a special visit from acclaimed author Erin Bartels, a 2025 Michigan Notable Author for her captivating novel, The Lady With the Dark Hair. Join us on Wednesday, June 11 at 5:30pm as Ms. Bartels discusses her compelling new work.
Our staff had the pleasure of delving into The Lady with Dark Hair, and we were immediately drawn into its beautifully lyrical prose and the nuanced portrayal of its two central characters, Ester and Viviana. In present-day East Lansing, Ester dedicates her life to running an art gallery showcasing the work of her ancestor, Francisco Vella. Meanwhile, the narrative transports us to 1879 France, where Viviana seeks refuge as a maid, having fled a past in Spain. Her unexpected role as a wealthy artist's muse marks the beginning of her journey into the vibrant world of art, a path that ultimately leads her to Francisco Vella. The intricate threads connecting these two women across time kept us utterly engaged, eager to uncover the secrets of their intertwined destinies. The Lady with Dark Hair is a testament to Ms. Bartels' storytelling prowess and is a welcome addition to her already impressive body of work.
Did you know that MADL proudly carries a wide selection of Erin Bartels' novels? We encourage you to explore her other captivating stories before her visit. We are incredibly excited to host Erin Bartels at the Holton Branch and anticipate a fascinating and engaging discussion with our community. We look forward to seeing you there!
