A busy summer at the Laketon Township Branch

Have you visited the Laketon Township Branch? It's understandable if you haven't. It's pretty small, and tucked in a corner of the Reeths-Puffer Schools administration building at 991 W. Giles Road. However, the staff (rotating from the North Muskegon Branch) work just as hard for the patrons that branch serves. Despite being our smallest physical location, we've planned a number of fun programs and community outreach activities there for this summer.

To begin the summer, we've partnered with Feeding America to offer summer lunches every Thursday, available from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, June through August. Acting as a partner in their Gather 2 Grow program, children up to 18 years old (and developmentally delayed adults up to 26 years old) can receive a FREE, nutritious, non-perishable lunch that they can eat at the branch or take with them. No proof of income, need, etc. necessary.

Similar to the one held in Walker Park next to the North Muskegon Branch, we're holding a Summer Kickoff Carnival at the Laketon Township Branch to match Reeths-Puffer Schools getting out for the summer (don't worry, the North Muskegon carnival will be on June 13th). This special edition will be on June 5th from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm. A bounce house and outdoors games will be on the beautiful front lawn. Kids, teens and adults can learn about and sign up for the summer reading program (this year's theme is "Unearth a Story" centered on dinosaurs). The MADL Bookmobile will be making a special stop here, too!

A smash hit a couple years ago, we're welcoming back Nicole Zaagman from Parkview Farm and her Jump for JOY program with pygmy goats. Get to pet and feed a pygmy goat, listen to storytime with them, and take home a coloring sheet. Also, staff will help you make your very own ice cream in a bag using goat milk (while supplies last). Catch this program on June 18th from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.

July is a great month to lounge outside in the beautiful lawn in front of the branch, and you can do just that during our Family Storytime series. Every Thursday  at 11:30 am we'll be there for a special outdoor storytime (weather permitting: it'll be inside the branch if it's not nice outside). Join us for fun songs, a couple books, and activities.

Lastly, the MADL foam cannon will be shooting safe, allergen free bubbles on the lawn on July 2nd from 12:30-2:30 pm. Children can dance, play, and splash in mountains of refreshing foam! Be prepared to get a little wet, however.

We hope to see you at our Laketon Township Branch programs this summer. Learn more about these programs and all of our other programs at madl.org/calendar
