Egg-spectations met at Holton

Julie VanderBoegh at Holton branch has had a partnership with Michigan State University Extension chick program for  the past 3 years.

MSU furnishes all equipment (incubator, housing, and fertilized eggs).  Staff are responsible for the set-up and then there's the hard part - waiting 21 days to hatching.

Once hatched, the chicks stay homed at the library for about two weeks and then they are re-homed.

Kids and families love to see the progress from noting the eggs in the incubator, to their excitement at seeing chicks exiting their shells to their steady growth after hatching when they go their heated pen.

It's also instructional for all patrons noting that the chicks need care, food, and lodging at all times!
