The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a national initiative encouraging families to read 1,000 books to their children before they start kindergarten. This also promotes reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers and encourages parent and child bonding through reading. The goal is to build strong early literacy skills, prepare children for kindergarten, and create a love of reading. MADL is proud to participate in this program through Storytimes, Outreach events, and of course books, audiobooks, book lists, and many other library resources.
Here's how you can participate:
Register online or visit any Muskegon Area District Library Branch. Read any book to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to read 1000 books before kindergarten.
If you read one book to your child each day, you will have read 365 books in a year, 730 in two years, and 1,095 in three years. Earn prizes as you read your way to 1000 Books including a backpack for kindergarten when you finish!
